Eggplant or Brinjal (Solanum melongena) is an important solanaceous crop of sub-tropics and tropics. It is a member of the nightshade family, which also includes potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, and sweet peppers.
Eggplant, often referred to as aubergine sometimes, is a tasty vegetable that grows in a variety of forms. Despite having a mildly taste, eggplant is a good source of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients.
Health benefits of Eggplant:
1. Good for diabetics
Due to their high fiber content and low carbohydrate level, eggplants are known to be beneficial for diabetics. It is because a high fiber diet helps to regulate the body’s blood sugar levels by limiting the absorption of glucose from food.

Folates, as we are all aware, are essential components of any diet, and folic acid is particularly advantageous for pregnant women. Eggplant is also considered to have narcotic, anti-asthmatic and anti-rheumatic properties.
Ashes of the fruit had been recommended for use in a dry hot poultice on haemorrhoids in some part of Africa.
Root juice was administered for problematic labor in Ambon.
Leaves mixed with stem bark are used as a remedy for dysentery in the Guianas.
Powdered root is used externally and taken internally to cure bleeding and for asthma.
