The three persons who were killed at Bawku Tuesday, August 16, 2022 have been buried yesterday in the evening around 6:00 pm according to Islamic burial rites.

The assailants who killed the three persons are yet to be arrested by security services at Bawku.

Meanwhile, the police and military have launched an intensive hunt for the assailants.

Out of the three other persons who were in the vehicle, two escaped and the driver got injured in the leg and is currently receiving treatment at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital.

Background

Three persons were killed at Bawku near the Bawku Senior High School in the Upper East Region.

According to Onua News’ Upper East Regional Correspondent, Mohammed Rabiu Tanko, the three were returning from a programme from Bolga.

On their return to Bawku, they were stopped, shot and killed. He reports further that the deceases had cutlass wounds on them, signifying they were butchered after the gunshots.

Even though the police are yet to make an official statement on the issue, they have assured residents of Bawku to stay calm since measures have been put in place to ensure their maximum safety.

However, Rabiu reports also that, the Kusasis and Mamprusis had prayed at this year’s Mecca for peace to prevail in Bawku.

They expressed happiness after their prayer, hoping that Allah had heeded to their cry, to instil peace amongst the Kusasis and Mamprugus in Bawku.

The incident, therefore came as a surprise to them according to Rabiu, who was present in Mecca during their prayer.

Prior to this incident, the Bawku Midwifery Training College was closed down before this murder. Police are investigating the issue as no arrest has been made yet.

Meanwhile, the Bawku chapter of the Mamprugu Youth Association have issued a statement condemning the act.

The youth say this is the fourth time such incident has happened in five months along the same stretch.

But the police and the RegSec which the regional minister chairs, have not made any attempt to secure those routes, accusing the minister of showing no concern because he is a tribesman of the oppresor.
